Here are a couple of stories to
show you why you need to choose the Vein Center of Charlotte for
your vein treatment.
May, 2009
"My name is Susie, and I am 58 years old. My varicose veins occurred with my first pregnancy when I was 20. They became progressively worse throughout my adult life, impaired my social life, and caused my wardrobe to be very limited. Black became my signature color, because black hose work well with black outfits and helped conceal the ugly veins at my ankles very well. Black hose with black slacks have been a lifesaver for me- no way would I even consider shorts!! Fortunately, I look good in black.
When my children were growing up, I sat in the shade in my jeans with a book while they played on the beach or in a swimming pool. Family vacations always left me on the outside looking in with a broken heart.
Five years after becoming a widow, a man who is now my fiancée found Dr. Altizer on-line and set up an appointment for me. My understanding is that I’ve been one of his more challenging cases.
I’m convinced that he is the best and most competent in his profession. I have no regrets neither because he was out of my health insurance network nor that it is almost an hour’s drive from my home to his office. His staff is very caring and friendly and has made my surgeries and subsequent treatments extremely positive experiences.
I recently sunbathed on the beach in a bikini for the first time in forty years with the special person who encouraged me in this and found Dr. Altizer for me. What a fantastic day that was!! Thank you, good doctor, for giving me the "lost" part of my life back."
"I had seen Dr. Altizer at the Vein Center of Charlotte several years ago for a varicose vein in my left leg, which he removed for me with no problem. I also had my spider veins successfully treated as well. However, last year I went to a different vein doctor to check on a new varicose vein. I chose this different doctor because he was close to my home, fifteen minutes at the most, driving time (Dr. Altizer's office is almost 45 minutes away).
The other doctor told me that it was a varicose vein but we should treat the spider veins first and then tackle the varicose vein after he received his new laser machine. This was January and February of 2007. I wanted the spider veins treated and healed before a summer trip to Italy. The doctor himself injected the spider veins with his "air pumping" method. The bottom line was that I had staining (brown discoloration in the skin), and I am still waiting for the staining to fade out. If I’d gone to Dr. Altizer's office for the spider veins I would have been more comfortable in Italy. The staining, at that point, was more noticeable than the spider veins and it really bothered me. I should note that the spider veins that Dr. Altizer's office treated never left staining on my legs.
As far as the varicose vein, I was told by the other doctor (the one close to my house) that it was a very 'dangerous' vein. I went back to him in September, after Italy. He wanted to do additional spider veins. He advised me to use his prescription cream on my staining but he still didn't want to touch the varicose vein. He was awaiting the "new and smaller" laser for which he needed training. He said the vein could not be treated with injections (sclerotherapy). I decided that the whole process was very risky for the varicose vein. I also decided that I didn't want them to do any additional spider veins because of the staining.
At this point, I drove the extra miles to Dr. Altizer's office. He advised me that the vein was indeed injectable and it was not dangerous at all. He did a simple injection treatment and in less thaN 5 minutes (and with only a 20 cent disposable syringe, not a laser) the vein was treated. I came back for a follow up visit 3 months later and the vein was gone! I also had more treatment for spider veins with no additional staining. I am working on eliminating the old stains with a different prescription cream from Dr. Altizer. The cost for the varicose vein injections were a fraction of the cost of the projected laser treatment. There was no difference in price for spider vein treatments, however, there was no "staining" from Dr. Altizer's office.
In short, it was not a savings in time and was certainly not a cost savings to go to the other doctor that was closest to my house . It was repeated trips back and forth, only to be advised that I should wait longer for treatment and to really "sell" me on the spider vein treatments.
Dr. Altizer has the knowledge and experience to treat varicose veins the right way. I will never go to anyone else again."

Thank you!

"I sought vein treatment because I was experiencing multiple infected Grade
III ulcers on both lower extremities due to vascular disease. I had seen
a local vascular surgeon and dermatologists without any improvement of the
ulcers. The exposure of my legs as a female was taken away. My
quality of life was altered. The freedom and joy of everyday living was shortened
and I was slowly withdrawing from society.
Dr. Altizer examined my legs and I remember asking him with tearful eyes, “Can
you help me?” He looked at me and very confidently said, “Sure
I can!” I knew at this point I had found the right physician. Dr.
Altizer understood vascular disease and he gave me hope for healing of the
painful areas of my lower legs. My ulcers were so bad, treatment was
required 3-4 times a week. Dr. Altizer was kind enough to meet my husband
and me on the weekends to change the bandage on my legs. I found this
to be very unusual of a physician but typical of a very caring physician such
as Dr. Altizer. As result of his expertise, performance of diagnostic tests
and management, my ulcers were healed.
I couldn’t ask for a better experience than what I have encountered with
the Vein Center of Charlotte and Dr. Altizer. I have found Dr. Altizer
to be very professional, an expert in his field of study, committed and sensitive. I
truly believe my ulcers would not have been healed without Dr. Altizer’s
knowledge, management and high level of patience. His sensitivity and
insight of the psychological impact that the ulcers had on me as a female were
very much appreciated. Dr. Altizer is a good listener and an outstanding
physician. My life is better because of his skills. I drive two hours
to the Vein Center of Charlotte because of the trust I have in Dr. Altizer.
